As always, we were keen to see this year’s Innovations Awards winners from the CES Show in Las Vegas, a source of inspiration for us for future product direction in the devices market.

This year, we loved two of the honorees in particular.

First off, the NVX 610 from Invoxia – the first desktop phone with “acoustic sound” and an interface driven by your iPhone.

With ethernet, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, its broad functionality is matched by a contemporary design that challenges the archetypal desktop / conference call phone.

We love the individual, rainbow-coloured speakers which separate the voices of conference call participants around a table.

Secondly, even as confirmed iPhone addicts, we must admit our heads were turned by the cool ASUS Padfone.

To quote ASUS: “this convergent device combines a smartphone and a tablet computer into one symbiotic gadget that allows consumers to choose the screen size that best fits their activities while seamlessly sharing data and 3G internet access”…

Launching at MWC, we’ll be watching to see if this ends up as a niche product with a dedicated fanbase or indicates a broader [welcome] end to a life of sync’ing devices!
